It seems to me rather vindictive against her for the state to ban her from engaging in swaps with her colleagues to avoid Civil Partnerships, other swaps are perfectly allowable. In no way is the state protecting rights of same-sex couples, they only have a right to have someone officiate their Civil Partnerships.

I see nothing vindictive about expecting someone to do their job. People's job requirements change all the time, in no profession would someone be expected to just keep their job when they are not capable of keeping up with the demands. If she is not willing to do her job, she can resign. There is no grounds to make it in any way more difficult for same-sex couples to get someone to officiate their partnership. Why should there be added bureaucratic waste merely because someone chose to work in a profession that she has determined now places undue burden on her religious convictions. She should just get a new job.

In English law an employer can vary the requirements of the job without consent but they must be prepared to make reasonable adjustments.

Agreed. Ms Laedel has argued that being able to swap would not cause any difficulty for same-sex couples. Her employer has not denied this.
