So I was in an elevator with one other guy. I didnt even really notice him, then out of nowhere he randomly says "nice shorts." I had no idea how to respond to this as I'm pretty shy, and was a bit weirded out. He seemed disappointed that I just said thanks and didn't continue a conversation. Felt really awkward. What should I have said!

That's never happened to me but I would have responded in the exact same way you did.
Like you I'm shy and something like that woulda made me feel uncomfortable/weird (but it might also have made me feel/think something like "Is he interested?" .. which would have just made it that much more uncomfortable/weird :eek: )

Yeah I'm the same shy too.
I guess though, you can't go too wrong with "You have such nice eyes, can I take a look" or "I really like your beard, do you mind if I touch it?"

Well, I'm not shy, just sometimes I don't want to be social. :tongue:
On a social day:
I would have said something like: yeah, I love them and they're really comfortable, too. And, then just lean back against the elevator wall, look him in the face and kind of grin. If they were new, I'd probably add where I got them from. Maybe he wanted a pair like them? :biggrin:
On an anti-social day:
I'd say, thanks, man. And then just zone out.

It reminds me of that scene from Seinfeld when George touches a woman's blouse on the elevator to feel the material.

Well you could've said something like "Thanks, you really like them?" and smile a shiny smile cause it's friendly and doesn't give anything away, but don't beat yourself up over it, next time you'll do better :]
