Major advise needed

I really don't have much to add, I think everyone here has given you great advice, and you seem to be doing well.

The one thing you may do is tell him that you want to respect his privacy, therefore you won't bring up the topic, but that doesn't mean you're uncomfortable with it.

If you don't discuss it at all, he may think you're freaked out. If you tell him you're waiting for him to mention it, he'll know you're open to listening to him.

Well, if he only told you, that means he's not too comfortable yet. So, you can just act like nothing really happened. But, when he comes to talk to you about it, or when you are alone with him or something, you can encourage him and support him and such.
