Any good free pc programs to fix a computer?
#1
Hi All,
My pc/note book is a piece of crap and i am needing some programs to sort out the problems... When i press numbers it brings up a search box every time on all numbers... Recently some letters are opening up new browsers and its driving me mental... Its slowed right down and seems to flicker... Further more my touch screen is no longer working and i cant operate my screen which is the reason i bought the damn thing lol

Help any good programs to sort this out??? I use AVG anti virus as i find its better than norton but i cant seem to find a program online which will do the trick opf fixing it

Kindest regards

I really don't think there are any quick fixes once you've got a virus. If you're sure it's virus related, you may just want to wipe your hard-drive, which is usually what I had to do before I got anti-virus protection. If you've backed up everything, it really isn't a problem. I wouldn't do it unless you're sure it cannot be fixed, though.

I wouldnt say ive got a virus as i only use facebook gay speak and gmail/yahoo email accounts... My yahoo one is only for freecycle/greencycle sussex groups and my gmail one is for online surveys which i get paid something like 60p for 20 minute work it may be naturally slow due to being a notebook i think... Its a packard Bell imax mini N3600 which seemed good for £500 when i bought it and now i know why lol

You could do a few things.. the best method would be to do a clean install of windows.

But download maleware bytes and do a full system scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

CCleaner will fix all your registry errors http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

after you do these report back

look at what processes are running in your windows machine. attempt to kill a process that looks suspicious, better yet do a google to see if it is considered proper. finally you can halt the process and see if the error goes away, or the machine crashes, or just nothing.

if you find a process that is creating the error look to see what application started the thing. google is your friend here

Maybe this could be of help:
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-In...d-p/460968

Seems like adware...really stuburn adware.

EDIT: This may also help:
http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/0...guide.html

Your problems do seem to be more than just adware related though.
So it maybe something*gulp*more serious.:frown:

Stupid question, but: You have tried using search engines to find answers right?
If so, then i'm afraid i don't have any other advice.

I hope you get it all working soon!

You might try "Norton Power Eraser". It was free the last time I checked.

It really does sound like your computer is being bogged down by malware/spyware, you can try Malwarebytes and CCleaner as suggested above, but it sounds like the infection is too far gone to completely recover your system.

What I would do is download a 'LIVE CD' of and Linux, I would recommend LinuxMint
http://www.linuxmint.com/
Burn the ISO on to CD/DVD on the slowest speed possible, then when that done, pop the CD/DVD in to the drive and reboot the system and you will boot into LinuxMint from a 'Live' session, which means that LinuxMint will run from CD/DVD and your RAM, so it will make no changes to your computer.

If you like it, install it...but don't forget to back up all your important data, music and videos.

The beauty of linux is that it is so very rarely affected by virus/malware/spyware that you don't have to install anti-virus and the likes.

I have been using Linux for about 10 year, it is free, it does the same as what any Windows OS does, it's free, it is easy to configure and customise.....andddddd it's FREE :-)
