There's supposed to be a strong solar flare, or Coronal Mass Ejection (Don't know if they're the same thing or not). It's gonna be the strongest recorded in the last few years, and may knock out electronics on a relatively large scale this year. Not near the Mayan End Date, but sometime mid-year. It's part of a sun cycle, and afterwards, the sun will go into a very quiet state for the next decade.
here's a link. I'm not sure about how legit this site is, but the same story has been in the news a couple of times too. http://www.universetoday.com/14645/2012-...lar-flare/

I can tick of 7 billion + reasons why the world is in serious deep doo-doo.
We are presently in an Extinction Level Event. Predictions range between 1/4 to 1/3 of the current species on earth are dying out. That is a huge ecological disaster playing out around you. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6502368/ns/u...port-says/ The black Rhino quietly went away for ever and few people even mentioned it, let alone stand up and scream for someone to pay attention and do something to stop this. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45236688/ns/...d-extinct/ http://www.well.com/~davidu/extinction.html is a website that compiles all of the data and news streams, it has been keeping pretty good track on all of the warnings, predictions and examples of extinction going on. The Oceans are getting empty. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/...cline.html Quote:Big-Fish Stocks Fall 90 Percent Since 1950, Study Says Corals are dying off at an unprecedented rate: http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2010/10/20...orst-ever/ Scientists: Caribbean coral die-off may be worst ever, Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean bleaching “may prove to be the worst such event known to science. The real cause there? our fertilizers we use on our land in order to raise enough food to feed 7 billion people. Since the dawn of the Gasoline Era we have dumped so many chemicals on the land in order to keep it producing food that if we run out of petroleum based products (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides) it will take at least 20 years for that land to produce any significant crop. Chemical fertilizers are to soil what crack is to the human body - it is a false source of energy that destroys the soil and leaves it addicted. Restoration of farmlands - meaning converting them from dependency on petroleum chemicals to organic methods requires scraping off the polluted top soil and making new top soil First then excessive mulching and soil building for years. Water We are running out of fresh, clean drinking water: http://planetsave.com/2011/10/28/is-the-...ean-water/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/...efault.stm Resources: Oil is not the only peak resource we are facing. Tungsten is nearly gone - least ways the easy to reach tungsten (no the whole shift from Incandecent lights to CFL and LED is not only due to energy, those filaments were a huge one time waste of precious tungsten) copper, Silver, Tin, Zinc - every metal that you can think of has had all of its easy to reach deposits mined out. Oil only gets the most attention because Oil is used in nearly everything. From the energy used to produce and extract other metals and minerals to the very items we have in our house. Oil is everywhere - in plastics, in the pills you take to keep from dying, in clothing (polyester is oil based) to the glues that hold the world together. The loss of oil would mean the loss of everything else. Every 9 years the world population will go up by one billion. 2011 it was 7 billion, 2020 it will be 8 billion, 2029 it will be 9 billion, 2038 10 billion... Currently millions are starving to death as I write this. We can't even feed the 7 billion and change we currently have on earth. how in the hell are we to feed 10 billion only one generation away (26 years)? Add climate change to the mix, the Methane Release which will accelerate global warming: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_methane_release and you have a civilization on the verge of collapse. Our cities are on the verge of death every single day. They rely heavily on a never ending supply of goods being shipped into them. Food comes out of climatological stable regions. California produces nearly 60% of the food the USA produces (aside from grain) The USA in turn feeds over 60% of the world. California is entering a Salt Crises - we have used irrigation canals since the 1940's way back when the plan was to have a system to remove excess salts as the water deposited them. Guess what, before WWII ended the project to remove the salts was stalled. Now California is losing many acres a year to visible salt deposits - white patches of salt delivered into the valley with no way to escape. You lose the Central Valley of California you lose the USA's ability to feed 60% of the world - that will trigger wars. We are in the era of exponential factors - our population is slowly increasing exponentially, our use of oils and resources is exponential, the current extinction level event is growing exponentially. No, it may not be this year, 2012 that the world as we know it ends - but it will be soon. Trust me, before we see the 10 billonth person born on earth, the World will be in a constant state of crises with wars waging over the dwindling resources opening - not these 'hidden' resource wars being fought in the name of terrorism.

The end of the world has been predicted countless times, often by people who have a direct com-link to aliens on Orion in their heads. Well, it hasn't happened yet. Must be because the Pana Wave Laboratory is fending off all of the evil seals carrying apocalyptic electromagnetic waves form the Arctic (I wish i was making this up). Admittedly, in the Mayan case the source is of terrestrial origin, but the significance of it is largely made up by masochistic day-dreaming. Does anyone worry that the world will cease to exist when the numbered boxes in calendar on their wall run out at end of every year?
Wouldn't actually mind an apocalypse right about now. At least, i wouldn't have to get up for work every morning at 6:30 AM.

It'll be me who ends this world. I can't give out any details as I don't want to spoil the ending for you. Just know I'll be quite happy, and the dawn of a new era will arise.

I figure they had to end their calendar sometime. I mean, it was carved in stone. How far into the future do you want to take that sort of thing?

To be honest I don't understand a single thing about this Mayan Calander thingamajiggy and I am extremely skeptical about what was said over hundreds years ago has been interpreted correctly, you know, like lost in translation, the same way the Bible is.
I look forward to getting to know you all well into 2013 and far beyond. |
