Dean Atta is a poet (and gay)
#1
I just wanted to share this YouTube of Dean Atta's poem: I Am Nobody's Nigger
As a gay, mixed race poet, Dean Atta writes poetry that is particularly interesting to hear and read. Enjoy. His book is available on March 4th. You can check it out on Amazon.

You may also enjoy this poem in which Dean deplores the fact that his Greek mother (his father is of Jamaican origin) never taught him or his sister Greek. A great loss for the siblings.

He was interviewed on the radio over here last night. I am always suspicious of people who call themselves poets, there's no special qualification, anyone with a grasp of the language can have a crack at it.

Anyway he moved me from mildly suspicious to big fan in the space of about five minutes with a lot of self deprecating humour and all round pleasantness. His stuff is serious but he seems not to take himself to seriously, so a sound bloke all round.

Have to admit, though, that I find poetry in general difficult.

Cardigan, I'm not sure he calls himself a poet so much as others call him a poet... He's got some serious stuff to say, indeed. I liked his humour too. Don't worry about poetry, you can sometimes just enjoy the flow of words, like in a song.
