What's on Your Mind
(05-19-2020, 02:41 PM)Rod Wrote: I am currently wondering why no one ever told me why eating a big breakfast would prevent me from being hungry later in the day and not binge at burger king. Or perhaps they did, and I just ignored it. LOL.
It depends on the kind of breakfast, Rod.  I have this standard thing where I do 1/2 cup (uncooked) oatmeal [Yields 1 cup cooked.] and 1 cup frozen blueberries and tea or coffee.  It amounts to 56 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fiber with essentially no fat.  I do add some light cream to the coffee or tea and put a dash of it on the oatmeal.  It does stay with me pretty well.  Try it for 3-4 days and see what you think.

I do the oatmeal in the microwave and just use regular quick oats..

The big thing here is fiber.  It slows down the absorption of carbs.

Well...legs are going to be sore tomorrow. I finally, after over a month I got to take the bike out today. Nothing crazy, I rode about ~9 miles roughly which isn't all that much. But this pandemic weight definitely didn't help to propel me lol

I don't know, 9 miles isn't too shabby at all if you haven't ridden in over a month Smile. I've not cycled since I was furloughed in late March. I would normally cycle to work. Been going for a fair few walks recently but may go for a cycle instead in the next few days to mix it up a bit. I anticipate struggling a little more than usual due to lockdown weight gain aswell lol. It has been bloody hard not to put weight on in the last couple months though!

You guys are brave. Cycling around here is hazardous to your life due to the traffic but I do cycle at the gym 3-4 times a week - I stop at 6 miles though and go on to the sit up machine. Problem is now the gym has been closed and I am really missing it - been a member for years.

I hate to ride a bike on the street and in the outskirts there are mountain lions who like to pounce on moving objects. It is rare it happens but one of my friends had one chase him when he was on his dirtbike so the countryside is out for me. They have been getting braver lately too with less people around.

@Cridders88 I would love to be able to cycle to work but the roads just aren't cyclist friendly. Some are more so than other but there's no bike lanes or anything. The highways people are driving 75-105 km/h (that's 45-65 MPH) and rumble strips on the shoulders of the roads....So it would be a delicate plan and damn we have hills. Either going to have to have "thunder quads" or lose a good bit of weight to be able to do 18.5 miles (one way). I had thought about doing it but there is a very small window where this is enough light in the morning to make it to work on time....probably a bad idea lol

Anyway, there are fortunately a cycling group I used to ride with but I'm usually holding up everyone so I tend to cycle alone. Everyone has high end racing bikes and I have a hybrid and so on. Just not as seasoned as these guys. But, I think if I get back into some jogging that will help. I'll probably be back to where I was last year by the time it gets cold again.

I was doing pretty good until January got here, not just because it got cold but started raining everyday and then this pandemic and I got all kinds of yummy stuff at the store thinking we might be stuck at home for a long time. Anyway, it is what it is. Definitely not as easy to get with it as it was when I was 25 lol

@eastofeden I was on a walking path, I try to get back to it before I take it to the streets. That way if I get tired I'm not on the side of the road in the grass getting ate up by chiggers....I made that mistake once..once!

Really really getting tired of the egos of some people at work. *Sigh*

@Meebs 2020 has been all sorts of awful hasn't it?

Really glad your mom is ok and that car accident didn't have more serious consequences.

I am fortunate enough to be only a 15 minute cycle from work. And some of that is on a cycle path, my town is fortunate  to have a quite a good network of cycle paths. I have about 5 mins on a relatively busy road (but not one that people can do 60mph on, the speed limit is 30mph), then a cycle path alongside a stream and some fields for another 5 mins and then my route takes me through a park for the remaining 5. It is actually a really nice route, so I am very fortunate.

It really sounds like it would be impractical for you to cycle to work Sad. 18.5 miles first thing in the morning would garner a big NO from me aswell haha

@Cridders88 Yeah I had this big idea that I would do a bicycle tour across North Carolina....but I think if I ever actually do one it will be a guided tour. Won't have to worry about hauling stuff. Would definitely want to do it sometime, it's a 7 day ride... https://ncsports.org/event/cyclenc_mount...oast_ride/

But yeah not really practical in some places around here.
