Pity more people in New york don't carry concealed. If more did then this guy may have thought a bit longer and harder before he did what he did.
Then again in this case maybe not. It appears he was actually seeking to suicide himself, but didn't have the guts to actually turn the gun on himself and involved officers in order to get them to do the dirty deed.
No matter how you slice this, guns do not kill people. People kill people, guns just happen to be a nifty way to do the job. A gun is a tool, just like a hammer a saw an axe or a butcher knife.
At no time in history has any tool just gotten up and decided to go postal on people. There is always, ALWAYS a person wielding the tool.
Banning Guns will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. It will, however, lead to the loss of firearms from people like myself who are 'legal' and respect the firearm.
There are less home invasions in my neck of the woods than in other areas, half of that has to deal with its pretty well known that out here in the rural area, 50% or more of the home owners own a firearm.
If a law was passed to prevent legal ownership of firearms, suddenly everyone would know that no one out here has a firearm. Suddenly the 'risk' of being shot drops, thus the criminals who didn't abide the law to turn in their firearm are out here and we are stuck with dialing 911 and waiting 20-40 minutes for the sheriff to eventually drive out here.
In truth, if gun bans do pass, I will not turn in all of my firearms. In fact I might actually turn the ones I have in, but only after purchasing a few that are unregistered and 'illegal'. Perhaps even more than I already possess with lots and lots of ammo to protect myself and my neighbors.
