PrEP (This is IMPORTANT)
#12
Darius Wrote:My concer is that too many people will think that PrEP allows them to have unprotected sex with anyone and everyone. I've read up on this and lots of people believe they are protected completely from HIV, like there are no other STDs.

Yep that is definitely the case, by a lot and for most having sex is the point, to have many different partners. I was discussing this with my sister about the fact that we don't have "dating" apps we have "sex" apps. I honestly think as far as being gay it is much easier to find a relationship as a gay woman versus a gay man. Not saying there aren't any women who want hookups but just seems to be less common...and I'm sure there are other differences as well but trying to date as a gay guy in a small town seems there aren't that many fish in the sea. Anyway I'm digressing but I think PrEP has it's own problems, might solve one but cause the spreading of other STD's because some people are ignorant to other STD's and other implications.

Yeah we didn't have much in my school either about sex...I think they hit on more of the anatomy than anything and of course to a bunch of 6th graders words like vagina and penis...well everyone just laughs at it anyway and doesn't take it seriously.

And you make a good point MickTheMousie ... the US is largely a sex-phobic society (despite being rabid consumers of pr0n) and it keeps us from being candid with young people about sex and the risks.

I do think there will be some long term implications of using PrEP. I think it will be something similar to the use of many other medications. Statin drugs, those that lower cholesterol, can cause kidney disease and other issues for instance. We don't know that the effects are long term because the drug is new and there haven't been any studies done with enough duration that would show that sort of data. Of course there's the other issues I mentioned above, spreading other STD's and guys feeling like that sex is...well..meaningless.

I do feel that sex is something special and just like everything else you can have too much of it...like having too many donuts....even too much water can cause problems.
