PrEP (This is IMPORTANT)
#11
Yea it is our selves how are supposed to keep us self safe, but i can clearly remember how many of the ppl in my class who were surprised when they found out that condoms weren't a 100% sure, that some of the diseases could be transmitted just by body contact, or by the mix of body fluids, how are ppl supposed to learn about safe sex, if they dont even know that they are having unsafe sex? how are ppl gonna go and google the problems if they dont know that there is a problem..... :/

Yep that is definitely the case, by a lot and for most having sex is the point, to have many different partners. I was discussing this with my sister about the fact that we don't have "dating" apps we have "sex" apps. I honestly think as far as being gay it is much easier to find a relationship as a gay woman versus a gay man. Not saying there aren't any women who want hookups but just seems to be less common...and I'm sure there are other differences as well but trying to date as a gay guy in a small town seems there aren't that many fish in the sea. Anyway I'm digressing but I think PrEP has it's own problems, might solve one but cause the spreading of other STD's because some people are ignorant to other STD's and other implications.

MickTheMousie Wrote:I think that it's kinda the goverments fault, they dont teach us about it in school, which is when most ppl begin to have sex, ofc we should take care of our selves, but how are we gonna do that when some of us dont even know what's wrong with them, i have had all the sexual lectures planned for my school time and i dont know how any of the sexual transmitted diseases look, and i only learned about 1 kind of prevention = condoms.

Yeah we didn't have much in my school either about sex...I think they hit on more of the anatomy than anything and of course to a bunch of 6th graders words like vagina and penis...well everyone just laughs at it anyway and doesn't take it seriously.

And you make a good point MickTheMousie ... the US is largely a sex-phobic society (despite being rabid consumers of pr0n) and it keeps us from being candid with young people about sex and the risks.

I do think there will be some long term implications of using PrEP. I think it will be something similar to the use of many other medications. Statin drugs, those that lower cholesterol, can cause kidney disease and other issues for instance. We don't know that the effects are long term because the drug is new and there haven't been any studies done with enough duration that would show that sort of data. Of course there's the other issues I mentioned above, spreading other STD's and guys feeling like that sex is...well..meaningless.

I do feel that sex is something special and just like everything else you can have too much of it...like having too many donuts....even too much water can cause problems.

To start off the worst thing that people can do is start googling issues because that often results in people diagnosing themselves with illnesses/diseases that they don't actually have, If people are actually really unsure of what to do to help prevent the spread of STDs then there are various places like the doctors or sexual health clinics where this information can be discussed.

Sex education isn't something that should solely be done by schools, parents and clinics should be involved in this too so that people get the information from a variety of sources and at an early enough that it is before most teens have sex.

You can't just blame the government because they own the clinics, if you're not pressing the resources you have available for the information then you're just as bad as them.

Ask everything that you can so that you can establish your own views on what you need to do to be safe when engaging in sexual activity. Another suggestion would be to look at documentaries, you'll be surprised the amount you can learn from documentaries within just an hour that could change how you view any sort of topic.

Fair enough by my point is that you cannot go around blaming others for the lack of information when there are so many avenues that you can approach this to get the information that you need to inform yourself of what the right choices are for you when engaging in sex.

Ultimately it is you that is responsible for yourself and educating yourself just like it is for me to do the same with myself. The government and those that work within the world governments are looking into thousands upon thousands of laws/regulations/services on a regular basis to theoretically enable the rest of us to live as easy a life as a society but we can't just place the responsibility with them when it is the responsibility of everyone.

You're right, but HOW are people supposed to educate themselves if they dont know that there is anything called an STD, if they dont know that they have it?

I'm not usually a reader of the Daily Wail but this article also defines my own point of view:

Despite what the government does or doesn't do at the end of the day you are responsible for yourself including making yourself privy to what STD's are and how to keep from getting and spreading them, granted we are disadvantaged when we aren't provided the necessary information.
