Superheated gass tends to ionize and form plasma. Electromagnetic repulsion is a stronger force than gravity, so I suppose if that happens, that's when a bit of gas gets ejected from a black hole. To what extent I don't know, maybe if it expands enough to a point where repulsion is negligible, gravity takes over again.

These are the mere machinations of a min with limited knowledge about these processes, mind you. I'm no physicist.
