Gay history site worth a look.
#3
It’s some time since I read Rictor Norton’s work. I noticed a fault this time I hadn’t picked up previously. He, like so many of us over the years, managed to forget the terms ‘GAY’ & ‘LESBIAN’ have acquired specific modern meanings we need to examine.
Historically the idea anyone could be classified as gay for instance seldom if ever existed. Same sex acts were regarded more as sinful lapses by ‘normal’ people rather than the manifestation of a particular class of homo sapiens.
Instance, the biblical ‘sodomites’ ( itself a mistranslation in the King James version of the bible) referred only to those who committed certain acts, not to a specific kind of character.
Hope that makes sense. I find this issue difficult to explain.
