In reply to the OP, I think you will have to wait to see what the difference between their rhetoric and meaningful actions turns out to be.
So what if he has appointed a surprising number of openly gay and lesbian people to government jobs? With the exception of those who have got those jobs why should the rest of America's gays and lesbians be thankful? To me it seems like symbolism instead of real action.
