Elections effect on LGBT Community

So what if he has appointed a surprising number of openly gay and lesbian people to government jobs? With the exception of those who have got those jobs why should the rest of America's gays and lesbians be thankful? To me it seems like symbolism instead of real action.

Actual sociological change happens one person...one action...at a time. As it stands...he has been more willing than any other President to appoint openly gay people...and quite a large number of them. His actions may be symbolic but symbolic actions such as these are important to the widespread acceptance of gay men and women in society and that benefits every one of us.

I, for one, am thankful for this. I am not sure he is a friend to the gay movement but I am positive he is not an enemy.
