Whist you are absolutely correct, the short answer is NO! For the very same reasons I don't starve myself for a week before a meal out, I don't have a cold shower before a hot one or spend half the night sleeping uncovered on the floor boards before climbing into bed.

Why do Americans call Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, "Prime Minister Brown"? I heard it on a CNN news broadcast the other day and it sounded very odd. He is never referred to as "Prime Minister Brown" over here. "Prime minister" is not a title in the same sense as Mr, Sir, Lord or even President, it's the name of the job. Similarly I would not expect ever to be called "musician marshlander" or even "teacher marshlander". However, were I in a meeting with the PM I might be expected to use "Prime Minister" as a term of address, as in "Yes, Prime Minister", presumably out of respect for his office.

Maybe it's the same kind of translation that sees "The Royal Albert Hall" become simply "Royal Albert Hall" ...?

Its a case of two peoples divided by a common language. In American English it sounds perfectly natural to convert a Job Title into a Personal Title, e.g. Defence Secretary Gates. But I would agree that out of respect for our language and customs they ought to refer to him as "British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown".
