Why Americans are so Obese
#41
BeautifulBlue Wrote:The reason they're so skinny is because, like you said, they have to be 'perfect.' And since the camera adds weight to you... people are even skinnier than they look on TV.

I don't know why... I like my chunky monkies Loveya. One of my Bff's hefty and she loves it! She runs the place wherever she is and doesn't let people get to her.

I wish more people were like her. She's even more strong than I am and I look up to her Confusedmile: .

She calls me her "mini me" Rofl ... oops off topic.

People say that people like Politicians and news anchors have to be well groomed and fit, because they represent that country/state/city that they're from. Which is complete foolishness, because majority of that country looks nothing like their representers.

It's more like they're trying to produce a false image of what the country/state/city is like, through their representitives...

This morning at the farmers market I got

8 bananas
14 white peaches
2 pineapples
2 red peppers
1 green pepper
3 yellow peppers
3 beets
3 leeks
6 avocados
4 jumbo artichokes
cauliflower
a branch of brussel sprouts
some pecans

...and a few other things I forgot...

for 23.00

...I fail to see how a bunch of crap could possibly could be cheaper.

California raised 55-60% of the food consumed by the USA. We contain about 11% of the population and ship the majority of our food out to other states AND the world.

So yes food especially fresh food is super cheap for us in California, especially at farmer's markets.

Go to the corn belt or the wheat belt and fresh produce is pretty darn expensive. Go to the cattle belt and veg is off the menu. But on the bright side steaks are real cheap (and corn fed beef fresh off the hoof tastes great too!).

People who try to lose weight here say this too. I guess it's because crappy food doesn't keep you sated for long. It's energy is too "fast."

They also appeal to consumers' money - if you buy fresh meat, you have 100%, if you buy cheap sausages, you have 20% - so if you want the same amount of meat in sausages you need to buy loads of them - and that means you must spend much more.

OH lord, I love a good bratwurst. My grandma (when she was still alive) in Minnesota used to brings these AMAZING brats down from there when she would come to visit.

And yeah -- like Nick said, a healthier diet does help you lose weight. I haven't been working out and have mostly just been eating plain foods (boiled eggs, tomatoes, strawberries, some burritos filled with beans and cheese, etc.) and not doing any exercise and I've lost some weight already. I mentioned that earlier, I know, but I don't think I mentioned what I was eating.

So, basically:

- Boiled eggs
- Boiled corn
- Strawberries
- Yoghurt
- Burritoes with beans and cheese

I have cheated (I admit) and caved to the evil slimeburger from Jack in the Box, but I've only done that twice and that's because it's been a hella stressful week for me. -_-

Saudi is close on America's footsteps. Every night the malls' foodcourts are packed with teen Saudis gorging themselves on Mc D's, Burger King and a plethora of other choices. Is it a form of social Darwinism? Because I doubt you can reproduce if you are THAT obese :p

Only three hamburgers??? What are you, a vegetarian?

Just kidding. I don't know why Americans have more weight issues than the rest of the world.
I think part of it may be that money and capitalism are such a strong force in out culture that it's created this belief in us that indulgence is our "right" and we deserve to do whatever the hell we want. This attitude is of course reflected not only in how we treat ourselves, but others around the world as well.

Hello,
I think some part of the role to play is habit... If your used to eating a high colestrol diet then unless you do something about it you get caught in a ruck... Like smoking it is a habit u do because u choose to do like american obese people choose to eat the burger than tyhe salad
