Mark Twain wrote about the Mississippi River... His pen name (nom de plume) is Mark Twain which is something to do with fathoming the river's depth, at the second mark (mark twain).... His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Some of (most?) his stories (Huckleberry Finn etc) are deeply rooted in the river culture.

thanks PA. I admit I've never enjoyed reading his books. And yes, I tried. I just liked the quote, because it mentions the thing that I dread the most, but I really need to do it.
