It's alright I guess, the restrooms could use a little fixing up, the punch and cookies kind of suck, and somebody should really do something about that ghost in the attic, but besides that I guess it's okay.

Steveonthelake Wrote:I am fairly new to the site. Introduced to it by an online friend ("Twisttheleaf"....or "T") that I made thru another gay social site. He was much more involved in the "forum" aspect of that site and it became to catty and political for his liking, so unfortunately I "lost a friend"...I am hoping we can reconnect thru this site. I am a late bloomer in the gay/bi world, having wrapped myself up for too long in my career and in my own business that I pushed to the perimeter the more difficult things in life (matters of the heart, etc.). Due to a lot of factors, I closed my business and spent the better part of a year doing some major self analysis/awareness/introspection....I put EVERYTHING on the table to try and find out why I was so unhappy. Out of that I owned up to the realization that I am bi-sexual with a strong attraction to men. Something I had chalked up to just having a need for strong friendships with guys and a desire to be fit/attractive, so I always admired guys that were such out of envy/inspiration. I know how silly that sounds, but that was my brain's justification.....because gay guys are flamboyant and outrageous, right? WRONG, of course, but that was the stigma that was burned into my brain since being a kid.

On May 26 of this year I came out to my family (immediate family of 5 brothers, one sister, 7 nieces and nephews). A very emotional few days for me, but for the most part it has been very good with lots of verbal support. Unfortunately my Dad passed away 10 years ago and my Mom is badly affected by Parkinson's Disease, so she really can't comprehend what I try to tell her most times.

I can't thank friends like "T" enough for the help they provided via emails, texts, phone conversations as I went thru this time in my life. Thru one friend's suggestion I joined a dating site for straight and gays and met a very nice guy. We have been together for a little more than a month and continue to learn more about each other. He has been very patient with my "newness" and helps keep me focused.

I'm looking forward to meeting some new folks here and hope to build more friendships.

Steve

I am not sure how I came upon this site 4 years to the month but I think I might have just looked up gay forums and this came up and I joined. I have been off and on since then as you can tell with how few posts I have, 244 some posts compared the another guy that I have seen that has like 15,000 posts and he has been here about the same time, big difference.

I really do like here and think that its a great place to be and talk about whatever is going on in your head or in your life. I just recently came to the conclusion that I am transgender and everyone has been cool with that and even though I haven't met any of these guys or women in person they have been amazing to me and have not judged me or anything and that is why I keep coming here after the fact.

Lately I have been having lots of posts about being transgender and I am sorry for that but perhaps someone else that is the same way can find some comfort here knowing that there is at least one transgender member, lol. Well that is how I got here and what I enjoy about being here.

No reason to be sorry for contributing substantive posts. Jason if there's anything we've probably both learned about GS is that members here take people and their problems seriously, and they give pretty great advice. That's a big part of why I joined.

I found GS by Googling gay message boards, and then weeding out hook-up sites. There wasn't much left as I recall. And when I checked out GS and read the current posts and saw some honest, well meaning and well reasoned replies I signed up and "moved in". That they all put up with me is a bonus.

When I started here I was (am still) at a point where I needed to get out of my head and focus on other people. I have a very good relationship with my partner, but am my own worst enemy when left to my own broken mind. Taking the focus off myself and helping out others whenever I can helps in ways I can't describe. Plus the feeling of community here is comforting.

It's rare to find a site that doesn't put up with members throwing hate around with each post. Being part of the solution rather than contributing to the problem is one of the best things about GS.

I just found a site that has some reviews that do NOT accurately reflect what this site actually is about.....and so I added my own review to balance it out a bit.

I wandered over here from RealJock, which is a bit of a misnomer because only a fraction of the members actually do sport or fitness (or at least talk about it). The bulk of posts are the same handful of people ripping into each other (is that some kind of sport?) with insults. I agree the lack of that is very refreshing.

Will also leave a review.

Me too. I'm betting the guys dissing GS in their reviews came here looking for the things GS is loved for by not providing.

Troll festivals
Flame wars
Pervy material
Hook ups

I have a feeling that most of the negative reviews are created by the same person over and over again. Just like the people that get paid to give bad reviews on a hotel or resort, they are getting money in there pocket to do so. I rarely ever listen to reviews of anything these days. Like with a movie review I really just don't care and have to see it for myself and then have my own review. Try it out for yourself and if you like it cool and if you don't then move on and find something else. I saw one posting that said they belonged to 200 yahoo groups? No offense but get a LIFE, lol. No truthfully I need to get a life, lol
