Most horror films being made nowadays are horrid....if they're not pathetic remakes of classic films, they are 2 hours of torture porn. Hate to burst your bubble Hollywood, but buckets of blood and gore a good horror film does not make.
Specific choices though....I hate the Saw franchise with a passion.....same goes for the Friday the 13th movies....like I said, I detest slasher pics...I'm more of a psychological horror fan myself.
Pretty much this. I've found movies that centered on the psychological aspect over the cheap jump-scares and blood and guts to be much more compelling. The ones that keep me up at night thinking. Someone getting hacked to death or having their eyes gouged out after a million "AAAHHH-oh-wait-it's-just-harmless-person-X" false starts is scary only in the sense that it makes me want to run screaming out of the theater and demand my money back. Enjoyed this kind of thing much more when it was lampooned in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, really.
