50 shades of grey does it live up to the hype?
#11
At first I was glad that she was making good strides with her writing and making so much money off it. Then I started doing research on it (the Twilight fanfiction, etc.) and I got increasingly angry over it. The fact that it's so horribly written and she's making so much money off of it makes me sad, because as an author I beg to question that if THIS (50 Shades) is what sales, then why the hell am I working my ass off trying to produce good-quality work?

It makes me sad. :/

I don't really understand this book selling like it is. Most of the people I know who have it got knowing it was super cheesy and like really poorly written and just wanted to see how bad it actually was. It's like some kind of strange effect that something can be so bad it circles right back around to being good, i jut don't understand

I could feel the same about my music when I look at Rihanna et al. But you carry on don't ya? You carry on because it is people like us that the quality goin' on. You carry on for those SMALL groups of alternative people who do enjoy your book or my music. We are the substance over style. I'm sure we are all guilty of following a trend though because it looks good. I know I am Smile it is what balances us out.

Actually the first time I learned what Fifty Shades was about, I'd heard of it long before but not what it was about, was in this video (Warning, graphic words):

I almost checked it out after that, but honestly its not my kind of thing. Let me know if its so bad its good or if its so bad its kindling.

this book is a proof that you can sell anything with good advertisement. It's sad. There are tons of better stories on the Internet. Some of them are similar, but without language mistakes, with better plot and better written characters.
Once you get into the advertising "mill" everybody will talk about it, even if it is not good.
There was a long article even in one of our magazines. At least the author noticed that the book was not good at all. The title of the article was The porn for stay at home moms.

I don't see mainstream pop music as much of an art form, to be honest. Maybe I'm just one of those tradiitional writers and view writing as an art form (which I do.) That could be my problem, haha.

I discovered folks in my office sneakily reading this on their iPhones! I have no plans to read it though, I'm picking most of it up through osmosis...

My personal opinion.....meh

I found the plot somewhat lacking...nothing I haven't seen before in one format or another.

As for the graphic nature...I've read much worse. Perhaps I'm just desensitized, but I didn't find it all that daring or shocking.

All in all, I gave it 5 out of 10. Its a decent light read, but its too mediocre to stand out for me as anything special.
