wear something that identifies you as gay

Haha you know what I'm like, blunt as ever :p

Even when I was a boi (the most "dyke" I've ever been in appearance) most guys assumed I was straight (not women though, plenty came onto me and others who worried about competition for men didn't worry about me). But then I've met men who seem to stubbornly hold to the belief that no woman desirable by men (at least by him) could possibly be gay.

The whole thing is a bit more complicated. For example, I got carded back then even to get into R-rated movies so I'd say I appeared as forbidden fruit (and thus appealing) to some men while other women assumed I was too young to worry about (in any case I obviously wasn't dressing to attract men, nor did I show any interest in them). I came to understand that some of my appearances suggested to other men that I was a sexual freak (like the studded belt I used to wear) and my hanging with goths also got some to thinking I was a sexual freak (because goths have the strange rep of being that way and thus anyone with them, though in my experience goths are a lot less sexual than most other people, though they also tend to be a lot more accepting of alternatives, gender bending, and people's kinks as well). But at the same time I did make women looking for women wonder and thus pinged their gaydar a lot easier.

I stopped wearing jewelry about a decade ago. Any metal, be it sterling silver, gold, surgical steel, titanium causes me pain. No rash, no breaking out, but the area of skin that the metal is touching becomes tender and sore. My diamond earring (my 2nd year sobriety birthday present to myself) caused bruising of my ear lobe. Not a rash real bruising- purpleing bruise.

I dress like a redneck. Jeans, sleeveless t-shirt, boots or sneakers. In winter I add layers of flannel and long john's.

The only thing remotely gay I wear would be my leather jacket, I've owned that since I was oh 22-23, so its 23-24 years old (older than many members on this board :o) Its the typical bikers type jacket, belt at the bottom, zippers for pockets.

I honestly do not celebrate nor make a big deal over my sexuality. To me being gay isn't that important, no more important than being straight.

On occasion I do where a three piece suit with a pocket square. Pocket squares were introduced in the late 1800's as a way for gay men to identify each other. By 1920 a pocket square was a mandatory thing for all suit wearers to have.

Hankies/Bandanas were 'code' at one time. Three years later every other straight guy was wearing them. Cut off jeans with the bottoms rolled (not hemmed) it was gay, less than 5 years later every straight guy who wore cut off jeans rolled the bottoms.

Bell bottom trousers - Gay, until the straights took it over.

Ear ring in the ear - gay, not only did the straights hog on to that, many of them competed in the piercing race, each new place to put a bit of metal was started by gay men, to be swiftly adopted by straight men.

Saved heads in the 1990's to show support of HIV/AIDS - started off gay, then many straight men did it. Mullet - gay, look at the late 1970's early 1980's and find many straight men doing it too.

The point, everything that gay men have adopted in the way of a style in order to stand out to other gay men is rapidly stolen by straight men (usually clueless that its a gay thing) and the gays are once again lost in the crowd.

I swear, gay men could take to wearing road kill and straight men would pick it up in a years time.

Yes, it does seem that any clothing code that has occurred has been side tracked by the mainstream after a while; I guess gays will just have to go on inventing...?

I don't wear anything that would identify as 'gay'.

Most of the time i just wear a t-shirt & jeans (or sometimes slacks) I also don't go for any of those name-brand/designer labels/overpriced-stuff.
I would never wear those "skinny jeans" or anything else tight fitting (way too uncomfortable)

I also don't have any piercings/or wear any type of jewelry...totally not my thing.

i am really paranoid about this and think that when i go into town everybody looks at me and thinks look at the wee poof, but i wear like bands and shiz which can look kinda gay i think haha
but i dont like people looking at me and knowing im gay so when im in town i normally hold hands with the girl i'm with. unless an obviously gay and hot person goes past then i let go and look at him and hold eye contact hahaha

I cant think of any clothing that would make someone say "look that guy's gay!", but I like anything that lights up, because everyone notices that. My wardrobe is a paint store that got hit by a tornado.
