I don't think I invented that word, Frank, as far as I know a tumba is the type of drum that they use in SAMBA so it followed Marshlander's contribution quite well.... He could actually confirm this, hopefully.

(you'll get it if you studied Latin, but that's playing on different languages too)

Sorry if I'm spoiling everyone's fun... but this thread isn't really going how it was planned...

The idea was you type the first thing that comes to your head that you associate with that word....

But everyone is making everything so cryptic and I don't mean to offend Albert, but half the time it's so cryptic that it's stuff people of my age dont have a clue about and it brings the game to an abrupt stop...

A tumba is usually the largest and deepest of the conga family consisting of quinto, conga and tumba. That makes it Cuban and not really anything to do with samba, although I daresay some people will use it when playing samba music onstage. For street samba a tumba would be far too heavy, so one would use a much lighter hand-drum such as a timba ... oh, was that what you were thinking?

I haven't noticed the game come to any kind of stop, let alone an abrupt one. A thread that has gathered 507 posts has hardly come to a stop. Could you accept, Smurlos, that not everyone can think the way you do?Wink As for cryptic ... well the game is bound to be cryptic if you ask for the first thing that comes into people's heads!! I wouldn't expect to know why some people make word associations as they do (but actually, I quite like the additional explanations that give a bit of insight into people's thinking).

Anyway,

   I was just teasing ya

Leo has the greatest function. Highlight a word and it not only brings up the dictionary but also wiki and a bunch of other stuff...

I like this thread because I learn stuff  I always wanted my Psych/therapist to do this with words or pics but they never do it like in the movies...
