Fairies resemble various beings of other mythologies, though even folklore that uses the term fairy offers many definitions. Sometimes the term describes any magical creature, including goblins or gnomes: at other times, the term only describes a specific type of more ethereal creature.

for some reason I am crazy about this word ethereal...

I don't know about that, did not find it in the dictionary and certainly the word Fée does not apply to homosexuals in French, we have other words like Tapette... or Pédé which are not very nice. I must agree with you about the word ethereal and that's mostly what I associate the word FAY with... If anything, a Fée is someone with many talents and clever and nimble with her (his?)fingers (une Fée du Logis, for instance)

There is often some confusion over the use of the words "fay" (a noun - fairy) and "fey" (an adjective - strange, other-worldly, whimsical). Homosexuals have often been referred to as fey. I think both words are due for rehabilitation. Aren't they lovely? Confusedmile:
