457,567 according to World Register of Marine Species, but they don't count mermaids or the inhabitants of Atlantis.

There are estimated to be 230,000 marine species currently known to science.

120,000 species are now registered with the Census of Marine Life which checks and validates descriptions for the World Register of Marine Species, an attempt at creating a register of descriptions of all marine life.

A species is a group of animals.
