Careers - doing what you love versus the money?
#11
Seriously, Lilitu? No, I don't think decisions made at this stage will be too serious. And there's a life after high school, which might, or might not, be what you expected. So few people end up using their university learning in the job they end up with that it should only be seen as a way to further your education, improve your mastery of whatever you apply your intelligence and skills to, and maybe give you an idea of where you'd like to apply those skills in the future.
Good luck with whatever you decide to study. Confusedmile:
What are you thinking of going for?

I currently find myself in the position of choosing to either stay at the job I'm at (support center for a major gas station chain) where there's at least a sense of security, but a shit load of changes that are making it a lot more stressful and less enjoyable than it was when I started, or looking for another job and/or going back to school! For someone my age that can be pretty scary!

I understand your predicament, Archy, but you're also a (formerly/ still) married man with children and responsibilities, which, I believe, Lilitu is not burdened with.

Cub, were it me, at 34, I'd go for the stability and, the probably already building retirement account (401K) over happiness with my job but, that wouldn't stop me form taking online or evening classes and exploring other options, just in case something that offered equal or better security and financial stability was or were to become available as a result of furthering my education.

Yes contentment goes a long way, but there comes a time when we have to look at the days ahead in which we will either be unable to work, or be old enough that we choose not to work any longer. We still need to provide for ourselves and, very possibly our families, after we retire. So at some point it's the money that matters most, if we don't want to struggle and barely subsist through our retirement years.

Lol just give me whatever job there is at this point, I've lost a lot of my passion for food and stuff and the unemployment is killing me literally. I would do anything just to get away from here and get whatever job there is, as long as the payment is livable.
Sometimes you need a bit of chaos in your life to be able to shrug off pitiful disdain about something meaningless.
