The Religious "View"
#21
Person66

You're right, I should have phrased myself better. Please allow me to clarify.

Its been my personal experience that Christians have shown the most negative behavior towards the LGBT community. I know that there are many other religious groups out there that do far worse things to us (don't get me started on Islam) but Christians have been a constant thorn in my side ever since I came out. It is those personal negative experiences which I base my observations.

Yes, the Judeo-Christian texts say some harsh things regarding homosexuality. But the long and short of it is I have had no bad experiences with Jews or those who practice the Jewish faith. I actually have a good portion of Jewish friends who couldn't be more supportive of us. The same can not be said of Christians.

So yes, I understand your points, these are just my personal experiences which color my observations. Confusedmile:

I think it is alot more about Liberal vs Conservative and sorry to say this folks but the Liberals are 1000% better overall.

Liberal Christians are our allies in many cases and they do NOT promote Theocracy.

Take, for instance, the Reverend Cecil Williams of Glide Methodist in San Francisco. They are quite Liberal and have always been supportive and inclusive

Here in Silicon Valley alot of churches got together to SUPPORT Gay Marriage and affirm equality and campaigned FOR gay Marriage in 2008...here is the ad they took out...

As people of faith,
We believe that all people are made in the image of God.
We believe in loving, faithful and committed relationships.
We affirm everyone's right to the freedom to marry.
We urge you to..
VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8.
Don't eliminate marriage for anyone.

Following Jesus' call for justice and compassion, this ad is sponsored by the Council of Churches of Santa Clara County Committee Against Proposition 8 and 23 congregations:

Almaden Hills United Methodist Church, San Jose
Alum Rock United Methodist Church, San Jose
Campbell United Church of Christ Council
Campbell United Methodist Church
Celebration Of Faith Church, San Jose
Center for Spiritual Living, San Jose
College Heights United Church of Christ, San Mateo
First Christian Church, San Jose
First Congregational Church of Palo Alto, Peace & Justice Task Force
First Congregational Church of San Jose, United Church of Christ
First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto
First United Methodist Church of Palo Alto
First Unitarian Church of San Jose
Grace Baptist Church, San Jose
Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church of San Jose
Metropolitan Community Church of San Jose
Morgan Hill United Methodist Church
New Community of Faith, San Jose (U.C.C. & American Baptist)
St. Jude's Episcopal Church, Social Justice/Outreach Committee,Cupertino
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Santa Clara
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, San Jose
St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Sunnyvale
Stone Church of Willow Glen (Presbyterian), San Jose
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, San Jose
Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto Board

Of course when you move up and down the SF Bay Area from Monterey and Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa and of course San Francisco you will find ALOT more churches who also support gay marriage...but not conservative ones.

It is the same with Liberal Jews, Liberal Muslims, Liberal Catholics...pretty much Liberals across the board. I think it is more of a conservative vs liberal issue and always has been.

If stupidity were a religion, there'd be many believers...

How in the hell is it their right to invade our basic human rights, because their "religion" said so. Not everyone is religious and America is NOT a religious nation. Some people came here for religious freedom. How is this fair?

I find you post very true I live in a small town in Texas and believe me I hear that gay Margie is not right everyday but I found I good photo that fits this very good.
