While waiting for the big 2000 post groupie, I couldn't post, but
My camping trailer build is now finally complete, painted green and trimed in yellow to match my lover.
The side tent, matches well to the trailer, and I can manage the weight of the loaded trailer on my own.
It towes well without sway / fish-tailing up to 150Km /H, then I get scared at the rate of knots the diesel get's drunk!
It sits nicely in the slipstream of the Landrover,and the wind get's thrown over the top of the roof-top tent, which is left up.
In December (13Th) I'm off on holiday (google if you want) for 7 days to Bloemhof dam coarse water fishing.
Mostly carp and cat-fish.
I go waaay to the back where there is nobody in sight, all on my own and just do my own thing, crap in a hole, shower under a pole, cook on the ground, over a fire (mostly).
Half the fun is battling the extrieme wind and storms that pass through, where tents become balloons, and cheap gear literally gets broken and torn to shreds, Cars stuck belly down in clay, and butch men cry. Once, one dude just dtove away! Left all his gear right there and buggered off, He and his wife had had enough...
Great fun... Really. I love it!
Then I plan to go South, West round Lesotho to Lady grey / Barkley East.
I'll base somewhere there and complete the 8 mountain passes challange, some of them are quite daunting, one is the highest in SA, another the steepest gradiant, one is virtually a widened footpath,
There are some truly amazing things to see as well. Bat cave, an extint volcano, the steepest railway line in SA (no back bends, each section ends, passanger's climb off, onto the next train facing the other way, and it in turn chugs up the next section, all garretts), Tiffendale ski resort...
The most amazing views... Oh and the dude that runs the backpackers lodge in Lady grey, re-builds organs that are bellows driven. He has the most amazing collection of antiques..
Anyhow, that is planned for 8 days, then It's home for new year, then on to the farm until January 13
Back to my camping trailer.
I'm really exited, as I think I've finally got a camping set-up that suits all my needs, I sleep off the ground, I don't climb up and down ladders to get into my rooftop tent, I don't need to put up my tent before sleeping, I can insta-poo if i need to, camp without needing to set camp first, it is light,and unlike a caravan can happily drag it off road if I want to explore.
Yes, one can buy a ready made solution, but that would cost around 20 000 USD. Mine all told cost around 800 USD?
The real expense is in the Landy, all told I've shelled out about 40000USD (exchange at 10 ZAR to the USD), but It's truly an awsome vehicle (see pics in profile and list of extras).
Finally After many years, and many tears, I can get to places I've always wanted to go and see
