suspicious text message

They are SO DISRUPTIVE to normal human interaction on many many different levels.

Aaaaarrrrghhh.

Here here.

But you and I hail from the generation where we hung out in the mall to meet our friends, or actually had to wait all day long to use the telephone (if your folks even allowed you access to the telephone).

And, in horror, we are also part of the last generation to know what a busy tone sounds like!

I have a cell phone. I carried it when I was on the job, Left it at home when I was off the job. I no longer carry it with me. I even go to the store with out the cell phone in my pocket.

Yes yes, I'm a brave soul, able to venture into the world alone.

Kids today have all of this technology and are dependent on the stuff. Drop them in a middle of any wild city without the cell phone and they would perish.

I was just talking about this with someone else.

It TRULY IS generational, but I wouldn't even go so far as to say, "kids today."

Example, my BF is 10 years younger than I, and our cell phone use is diametrically opposed. And yeah, it has been a problem for me....

I learning how to "deal with it..."

I hear you! I have dropped acquaintances and friends because of those damn things....

I can be very specific about it.....

I am not a "snooper" or nosy at all. You can leave your wallet or purse...or Internet...with me for 100 years and I will NOT invade your privacy. I will never spy on you for any reason nor do I wish to ever be privy to anyone else's private conversation. I don't even want to know what anyone else says about me...good or bad. It is none of my business and has nothing to do with me anyway....

So when someone starts having a private conversation in front of me...I am f*cking appalled at how rude that is and I feel personally violated because I am forced to listen to someone else's private conversation....

It changes my view of the person doing it. I understand a quickie "informational" phone call but a leisurely conversation when you already have a companion? How can people NOT understand how rude that is?

lazyboy Wrote:ok...this is something in my relationship which really bothers me. I think it happened on our third date at the cinema. I had previously been introduced to my boyfriend's housemate that evening and then we left for the cinema where he was texting back and forth to his housemate after leaving the house and before the movie started. he wasn't really hiding his phone from me and i didn't think about it until i glanced at his phone while he was sending a text and saw the following messages.
his housemate said 'ur new guy is really cute, i don't know what u were talking about'
(this hurt as it implied that my bf was critiquing me negatively.)
then he replied 'ah ya he will do lol'
i felt terrible for the rest of the night and was moody towards him until i opened up later and told him i saw the messages. he proceeded to tell me he didn't say anything, and that his housemate must have just said it for some reason he can't explain. this sounded like bullshit to me. why would i want to be with someone who doesn't think i make the grade. it's quite depressing and is all i can think about now that we have more or less broke up. would you have been annoyed yourself if you had seen this?
the guy i was seeing had a habit of messing around with people and said he always messed around with people and made jokes about physical appearances like one evening he said that i was nothing special and then said it was a joke when i confronted him about it. his tone didn't seem that jokey to me. what am i supposed to think about this?

He sounds like an a*shole to me.

i think he might have actually sent it but was probably just speculating about stuff with his housemate. I think its a bit early in the relationship after 3 dates for you guys to be on completely open terms and maybe you should just give him a chance. Unconditional love takes time to build. Usuallly when you meet someone you'll judge them and see if they're a fit for 'you' or not. He might have just been doing that out loud with his friend and clearly his friend must have said something supportive, and clearly he does like you if he decided to show up again.
