I know how you feel. For example I cringe every time I watch The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane where the girl (played by a 13-year-old) takes off her shirt (the scene made using the actress's "barely legal" older sister) and gets in bed with her boyfriend. The scene takes place in the book as well which I'm fine with but it feels so contrived to watch and it was so pointless that I KNOW they put that in there just to stir up a little controversy and get people (fooled into thinking it was 13-year-old Jodie Foster who took her shirt off) to spread the word to up sales and that's a jarring note that pulls me out of the story and makes me remember this is a movie. If I had a VCR I'd get the video as it cuts that scene out and I'm happier not seeing it.
But generally speaking, market research shows men prefer the sexual details & visuals to the emotional and romantic. And I've seen it in fanfic a lot, it's sometimes surreal to read lesbian slash (that is romance and/or erotica and even outright porn) by men as it's so visual (often times the very first thing a lesbian character will notice about another woman is boobs & butt, just like a male character) and....I guess "raw" is the right word (that said, one of my favorite authors of lesbian slash is a man, though there is very little sex in his stories). Generally speaking (there are exceptions) there's a world of difference between lesbian porn & erotica by men and the same written by lesbians for lesbians. And I've noticed that when a L Word slash vid on YT becomes popular so that many types of people click on it hoping for man made lesbian porn they tend to complain about how full of sentimental crap it is that spoils the effects (even when there is some explicit sex scenes thrown in). For that and other reasons I'm not surprised that novels targeting gay men (just like those targeting straight men in any erotic sense, and many with strong romantic angles as well) tend to be so sexually explicit.
(Of course there are explicit novels for women as well, some quite popular like the current 50 Shades of Grey.)
But if you want one that is much more about the love and devotion there's the trilogy that starts with Magic's Pawn and should be easy enough to get from your library (ask the reference librarian how to get it if you library doesn't already have it). Though fair warning it's written by a woman and as far as I can tell most who love the series are women themselves. And it's not all sweetness and light and happy endings.
