Over 95% of court cases end in plea bargaining. Only rich people can afford trial by jury.

Assault is serious, getting 4 years in prison for it strongly suggests a violent past.

I've been in relationships with men with violent pasts, it didn't end well.

Be very, very careful. Charming is a well learned masked that abusers learn to wear, its not until you are in the relationship that they allow that mask to slip.

It was self-defense. Someone ambushed him, and he retaliated. Attempted murder or not, mistakes don't always define people as one might think.

I can understand his anger, he's had a fucked up life, but he wouldn't lash out on me since I wouldn't give him a reason to.

Thanks for the warning, though. It's something I've thought through, and I know, by this time in my life, when to cut people off.
