Date or Hate
Hate - for you are spouting off about nonsense and are in error.

https://www.google.com/#q=where+is+magne...pole+today

Further hating you because you don't understand Google is our friend.

And lastly, hating you for having issues with Sheldon - he is most awesome of characters and why I watch Big Bang Theory religiously.

I have had minor crushes on Data, Mr. Spock and Sheldon... clearly I prefer men who are emotionally unattainable - hate or date?

Haha..date since I'm emotionally unattainable myself ...

as to the magnetic pole I WILL NOT BACK DOWN...NOR AM I SPEAKING NONSENSE

magnets are always depicted as this..

North is always the pole that generates the magnetic lines and the south is the pole where they come back to the magnet...

This is Earth's magnetic field:

In fact, the "North" Magnetic pole IS A FREAKING SOUTH POLE...they just call it "north" out of being close but not conciding with the geographical north pole...

I LOVE BBTHEORY, AND I LOVE TO DEATH SHELDON....otherwise I wouldn't know about the chapter now would I? But the script was wrong and made Sheldon tell a scientific falacy

Yeah...I will fight to death anyone on any scientific subject who think "I got it right" but not really....and I won't be nice about it...

Date as I love being right myself.

Interestingly enough here in North America it's not the North Magnetic Pole that our compasses are drawn to but a rather large iron deposit somewhere in the northern end of Greenland. Thus the 3 norths, True north( from your position to the North pole),
Magnetic north (from your position to the iron mass), and Grid north (from your position to 0 degrees on a map).

Important to know for navigation.

Ok

But Ardus is correct.

But South
Your statement has not always been correct

When did the last magnetic switch happen and when is it likely to happen again.
I'm told soon

Just asking....

True indeed, the earth "true" magnetic poles have switched a couple times and likely to switch again...

For the time being though, north is south, and south is north... magnetic compasses do not point north or south, rather the needle alligns with Earth's magnetic field lines which run from south to north this days...

And yes, the iron deposit makes for that third party in locating one self in the north...good info!

Anyway, I get super passionate about discussing scientific matters. I still think the script was off that day and I hated Sheldon was forced to verbalize a falacy...

Hate!

I'm totally outdoorsy spent like a gizzillion Rands (about 10 USD ) getting my lover to take me where I want to go. Got all the gear. and happy to go starkers if nobody around with my shlong flapping around from left to right as I cast my lines when fishing... Oh Joy

Anyhow, before Bow whips me over the foreskin with a wet spaghetti (again) for creating confusion, this game is is date or hate, but before I go there....

GEOMAGNETIC REVERSAL (from wiki)
A geomagnetic reversal is a change in the Earth's magnetic field such that the positions of magnetic north and magnetic south are interchanged. ]

The Earth's field has alternated between periods of normal polarity, in which the direction of the field was the same as the present direction, and reverse polarity, in which the field was the opposite.

These periods are called chrons. The time spans of chrons are randomly distributed with most being between 0.1 and 1 million years[citation needed] with an average of 450,000 years. Most reversals are estimated to take between 1,000 and 10,000 years. The latest one, the Brunhes–Matuyama reversal, occurred 780,000 years ago.

However, a study published in 2012 by a group from the German Research Center for Geo-sciences suggests that a brief complete reversal occurred only 41,000 years ago during the last glacial period.

The reversal lasted only about 440 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years.

During this change the strength of the magnetic field dropped to 5% of its present strength.[1] Brief disruptions that do not result in reversal are called geomagnetic excursions.

So then, who the heck says N is UP and S is down?

I live in the most uppity part of the world! Wavey

Nothing I haven't read already (skipping the highly doubtful reliability of wiki info)

the direction of the magnetic field tells you which is north and which is south...by standarized nomeclature north is the pole that generates the lines (currently this is close to the geographical south pole) and south is the pole that "receives" the lines (currently close to the geographical north)...in couple hundred years, sure it will be reversed...and the back....but for the time being north is the magnetic south and south is the magnetic north...

Why thank you:flirty-thank-you-sm
But sweetie, no need to pause for me (again)

The whole of that blurb was to point out to the hoity-toity who think they "live up" North, that they actually might just be wrong, so if you check out my post again, check out my date or hate,

So then, who the heck says N is UP and S is down?

Hmmm..true....and who knows maybe the next shift will have the magnetic north coming out of Tanzania or something...your comment sooooo reminded me of a Mafalda (Argentinean comic) joke about her questioning if she lived in the bottom of the globe, then why weren't they upside down..

Oh I doubt you people out do "uppity" some American cities and some European countries...nevertheless I would so date and live with you there...that way I can undermine their dangerously high self-esteem get executed in return and by doing so wage war....oh, the prospect..

If you're not much of a cold ocean cloudy day windy weather beach person I'll leave you home and go swim myself...when it comes to my much needed swimming time I'm a total selfish bastard
