In my generation two men holding hands was decidedly gay and a lynch-able offense.
Forget sitting between each other's legs and saying the ILV phrase.

I think he is gay or bi and is struggling with the whole how society frowns on 'the gay'.
Seriously everything you have described points at homosexuality.
I don't buy into that whole 'Bromance' thing as being touchy-feely. Its a white lie allowing guys to get in touch with their weaker, effeminate side. Oh and get off my lawn too.
