When towns were forced to host the Persian army, they had to provide dinner for everyone. King Xerxes dined with about 15,000 soldiers (give or take) and an entourage. Feeding everyone cost about $100 million in today’s money. It included the silver and gold cups and bowls made just for the occasion, plus a large pavilion for the king to lounge around on. When the Persians moved on the next day, they took ALL of that gold and silver tableware with them.

The phrase "white elephant" originated in Asia. Basically, white elephants were considered sacred or “holy.” However, keeping and taking care of a white elephant was very costly. When a king in Asia didn’t like somebody, he would give them a white elephant because the cost of keeping the elephant would eventually put the recipient in financial ruin.

Anatidaephobia is the pervasive, irrational fear that, somewhere in the world, a duck is watching you. The person believes that no matter where they are or what they are doing, a duck is watching them.

The Etruscans wrote from left to right, then right to left for the second line, left to right for the third line, right to left for the fourth line and so on. If that’s not weird enough, the “backward” lines were literally written in reverse with letters appearing as if it were reflected in a mirror.
