Hi there, I'm from China.

No, my grandfather was not Chinese but British, Scottish actually. His father was a teacher in Hong Kong. The British Empire was still very widespread in those days. I had to learn Chinese on my own when my mother went to spend three years in mainland China, teaching English... But my Chinese is very poor, I'm afraid. :frown::redface: So I'm a quarter Scottish, actually... but in reality I'm a bit of a European mongrel.

Scottish! In the past i thought the Wales, England and Scotland are basically the same until I met a Scottish professor here...And I could barely hear what he says because he has a really strong scottish accent! ( I like that accent though)

Yes it's a nice accent once you get used to it... So is the Welsh accent, very singing... with a lilt.

I fell in love with a Chinese guy in San Francisco from 1975 to 1981 when he died of AIDS. His name was Danny Yiu and he was from Macao. Like many Americans I grew up thinking all Chinese were very polite. Danny taught me that sometimes Chinese people use politeness as a way to insult non-Chinese people. He taught me how to speak Chinese phonetically and to walk into small Chinese stores and say "My name is John. I am not a goat-faced American, what is your best price for that item." I would point at the item I wanted to buy.

Interestingly, Danny's father had 250 children as a major league gang boss in Macao. Danny was told to immigrate to the US because he was considered too soft to be part of his dad's gang. I was the nephew of the toughest Irish gang boss in NYC and his family knew all about my family. He gave me some great insights into what some of my creepy cousins were up to. He told me one was bringing boys from Asia as sex slaves for men in the west. One cousin of mine was supplying boys to Catholic priests who liked to molest young boys.

Unlike Danny, my uncle wanted me to take over his gang when he died because I was the best trained boy in my family with a revolver, switchblade or baseball bat. I was also a foot taller than Danny who giggled a lot. I could never quite get Danny to take some of the risks, gay guys like me enjoyed. Danny liked to have sex in a bed. I liked having sex with guys in sunlight. I enjoyed being watched by total strangers but Danny said the Chinese were never that open. Many Chinese like having sex with men but thought it was too dangerous to be so open about it, like I was. The most Danny would do was go skinny dipping on trips north of San Francisco.

One thing about Danny was very different from American gays, Danny took the experience of orgasm much farther than westerners. Danny was a lot less casual while having sex, he was very intense about what we were doing to each other. On the other hand, he was far more conservative about being seen as gay which he said Chinese families found embarrassing even when they accepted their sons orientation. Do it but don't brag about it seems to be a Chinese motto.

I would love to read more about being gay in China. Fascinating topic as the internet draws the world closer. Chinese porn is very sexy but not very explicit.
