What's Orthodoxy?
#1
I guess when it comes to religions, we are all fairly wary of how religions and religious people treat us and our different kind of love...
This is why this is an interesting take coming from the Orthodox church...

I did hear of a Russian Orthodox priest who was gay, though he left the church when he admitted that. His wife was really bitter and said they only had sex twice and she got pregnant both times. It was perhaps as much a relief to her as to him when he openly declared himself gay, stopped being a priest, and just went crazy (dove right into the leather crowd, etc, or so goes the gossip of the Russian Orthodox who knew him), but such a waste of life for both partners, and who knows how the kids felt. :frown:

The Orthodox Church also celebrates the saints Sergius and Bacchus, martyred roman soldiers who were by some accounts lovers (the catholic church recognises them too, but you don't hear much about them).

Their star has risen and fallen over the centuries, revisionism casting their love as brotherly rather than romantic. They were Roman soldiers, a group who would certainly have found representation in any 4th century version of the Village People, such was the reputation of the Roman Legions.

Some have suggested that at one time there was a ceremony of Sergius and Bacchus used by the church as a form of gay marriage, I find this hard to believe.

The Orthodox Church takes as dim a view of being gay as the Catholic or Protestant branches of the franchise, although their more liberal members cling to a notion that there are sins for which the individual is not fully responsible and therefore not fully accountable, homosexuality being one of them. Clutching at straws I say.

The real question is, what on Earth were you looking for to stumble across that?

I'll address that question, as, -- will you believe it? -- I was trundling my way through FaceBook and these guys were sitting there in the margin. I usually click on quite a few gay related themes like newspapers, radios, website that offer gay news, so I'm nor surprised about that thing sitting there. It caught my eye, I clicked on the link and voilà!! Nothing seedy or weird about that. They've got a FaceBook page for the calendar, which you can visit and where you can see all the nice looking men... haha.

ObW, these two are twin brothers. I think one of them is an Orthodox priest, the other is not... but they are bound to be close, since they are twins.

Of course I'll believe it. It might have been more interesting if you hadn't answered, the imagination is often more exciting and amusing than the truth.

Don't think for a moment that you need to defend yourself against seedy or weird, even my sordid imagination could never conjure up that sort of picture, you radiate wholesomeness. Do I pick up my flattery prize here or on the way out?
