I gathered the congratulations from context, though I've never heard it before. And thank you for clarifying "-sama" and "-chan", I've wondered which was the more formal. Would you mind explaining "-dono"? From what I've gathered, it's an affectionate (almost romantic) address, though I'm not certain. I was a good cliche gay boy in school and took French, and true to form, because of a boy...

"dono" is kind of like "lord" or "master" lol ~

it's halfway between "san" and "sama" in terms of how respectful it is . and it's not really used much except in writing .
it's mostly used in business , and usually only in letters and things . it's generally a pretty old honorific ... it does get used in anime / manga occasionally , but usually as a joke ...


"chan" is the most affectionate (and can be romantic) address
"kun" can also be affectionate , and is pretty much only used for boys ~
