Can't help thinking it's a bit more than that! In order to be able to interpret events isn't there a bit of research involved? I would have thought that any self-respecting study of "History at an academic level" might somewhere have to include at the very least:
  • being to to make sense of original, and often conflicting, source material (in whatever form [or language in the case of written texts] such evidence might appear);
  • relating said material to contemporary social, political, religious and cultural contexts and
  • demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of the interpretations of other commentators.
That's just for starters, but I'm not an academic historian, so I've no idea about the detail of studying the subject. I really hope no one is going to prove Enigma right!!!!

Each lesson has its purpose. While general studies isnt recognised as acedemic, It still helps students to understand life, and learn to express opinions. :biggrin:

The requirements for university entrance seem to be really screwy from what i've seen. I think it's because i do the international baccalaureate, which is a course that has only been introduced relatively recently and so the entrance levels are so much harder for me than for those normal A level types.

For example i was looking on the Oxbridge websites and its minimum acceptance grades were 3 A's at A level, whereas the IB score was 42 out of 45, which is equivalent to 3 A*s and 3 As at A level (and you cant even get A*s at A level yet!!:madSmile

Pssht, thinking about stuff is hard Cry

Saying that, Cardiff University requires 2 A's and 1 B thats what they want I had 1 B and 1 C in A level, which they happily would accept, it depends on the person more than the grades.
