What book are you reading now?
SlipknotRlZZ Wrote:Just finished The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. Currently reading Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for school. Also thinking of starting The Spiderwick Chronicles again.

What did you think of His Dark Materials? That series literally changed my life, which is kind of embarrassing because it's a children's series and I only read it about three years ago Rolleyes. The passage at the end where the angel convinces Lyra to pursue the study of the aleithiometer was what made me decide to quit my job and go back to school (that and many other things of course. I'm not THAT impressionable). As a longtime atheist I wish I had read those books as a kid. It would have drastically improved my childhood experience.

I'm working on Lolita now
I'm basing a psychological study off the book and how the name 'Lolita' is now associated with promiscuous girls, even though she's the victim. I find it horrible how essentially she's blamed for her rape in the book, but I also find it fascinating...

Weaveworld by Clive Barker

Great novel. Wish the miniseries would get off the launchpad however.

The Secret People, by John Wyndham. A short, slightly dated, sci-fi novel.
I was about to start The Bruce Trilogy, by Nigel Tranter, but I had problems fitting it into my bag ,so it's back on the 'to read' pile

I don't think you should even mention feeling embarrassed about reading them at this age, you should be embarrassed about being embarrassed (god i hate this word). There's no age limit on books..Except maybe erotic literature. Anyways, I absolutely loved the first two and had huge expectations for the third one, but the ending was a major disappointment. Like...I couldn't even believe it.
What I love the most about the series in general is all the magic and magical stuff. Gish, I love books with their own mythology and tons of different magical creatures and ldjglkdjfl

God, I need to buy it soon! But I'm trying to save money and I have absolutely no room for new books, and it breaks my heart.
