What book are you reading now?
SolemnBoy Wrote:Some of the poems are pretty beautiful but in the end I'm under the opinion that they're doomed to be lost in translation. Japanese can be a tricky language to translate but it's also changed a lot since the writing of the book - older Japanese must be even harder.

Although the book was written before Feudal Japan you're kind of right. The introduction explains everything you need to know though so that's not really the reason why it's going slowly - I'll definitely see it through until the end! I just ordered a bunch of books and 'Kokoro' was one of them - heard loads of good things about it Smile Also ordered, amongst other things, the diary of the author behind Genji.

I couldn't remember the date of Tale off the top of my head, haha. I'm not too knowledgeable about Asian literature, it is certainly outside my specialty. Older Japanese literature in particular is usually out of my frame of reference. I've read Ihara's Five Women who Loved Love, which didn't move me much but there's an interesting folk-literature aspect to the stories that was interesting.

The god of small things.

This is really interesting and because it's for school it'll be nice to see all the puzzles pieces fit together because I can clearly see them but I haven't figured out the picture.

"The Catch Trap" by Marion Zimmer Bradley - The story takes place in the 40's and deals with the love affair of two men who work as aerialists (flying trapeze) in the circus. It is a very long book and spans years of time in the men's relationship. If there was ever a book that could be the next great "Brokeback Mountain", this is it.

I just finished Miranda's 'Is It Just Me?' Autobiography which made me agree so many times. Now I am onto 'Camp David' An autobiography of David Walliams. So good so far!

Just wondering if anyone here uses Goodreads? Might be kind of fun to compare books and find something new to read! ^-^

I'm reading Daemon by Daniel Suarez, but I'm also in the middle of 11/22/63, which I had to put aside for a bit.
