I don't know if this has been discussed on here before, but it's something I only just became aware of after reading a novel over the weekend, in which one of the secondary characters was a "bug chaser" - someone who is deliberately trying to catch HIV.
I find it difficult to believe that anyone could be this stupid.
If anyone's interested in the novel, it's called "Changing Jamie" by Dakota Chase. It's a young adult novel and could probably gone a bit further with the "bug chasing" aspect. Even so, I found it an enjoyable read.
I have never been able to understand this concept. I think a good wake up call for these "chasers" would be to go to an AIDS hospice and see what a terminal ill AIDS guy looks like and ask themselves if that is really what they want to become.
I've never heard of it before, that's f*cked up. These people don't have a "lot of misperception" about this issue, they're completely insane, that's all.
These are people conditioned into thinking they'll be fine by catching anything from these parties. The people involved target vulnerable individuals in an attempt to take away what "normal" lives they have to somehow "ease" their own suffering in my opinion. It's got to be really insulting to someone who actually has a sexually transmitted infection/disease to know that people are knowingly wanting to become infected.

I know a guy who is positive (Adam) and he told me that a guy kept trying to "catch it" from him (Barry). It pretty much ruined Adam's life and he is still mad at the guy who passed it on to him, now Barry wants Adam to do the same to him? That's pretty messed up!
What's even worse is that I dated Barry not long before finding this out...
