New Zealand Marriage Equality Bill passes into Law
#1
Okay the same sex marriage bill in New Zealand from a few months back passed into law last night, after passing its first and second readings in parliament with a high ratio of yes:no, it passed with the same votes as the second reading, 77:44

Oh yeah I heard his speech went viral. I didn't catch it on parliament TV because I was watching My Kitchen Rules Tongue I only saw the final vote and the singing of Pokarekare Ana.

Good for NZ, and Williamson's speech was certainly a breath of fresh air - a charming, witty, good-natured skewering of religious wingnut nonsense and an appeal to common sense. Video here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/17...00714.html

Meanwhile, here in the States, Congress can't even pass a gun bill that 90% of the people support. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/17...03341.html

We'll let you know when we join you guys in the 21st century.

So pleased that New Zealand is yet again a step ahead of their supposedly more advanced neighbours.

Well done to New Zealand, you are the pride of the Asia-Pacific region Bighug

Ah, it sounds like NZ has it's own version of BBC Parliament.
I think I'm the only person in the UK who watches BBC Parliament...

LOL look at this : http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/articl...d=10878483

The new york times called him "one of the few openly gay MPs in New Zealand"

Despite the fact he's already married to his wife ._.

Just goes to show how distance really does make news reports deviate from reality xD
