Sleep (Or lack of...)
#1
OK I have a problem with sleep.
I don't have a problem GETTING to sleep. Once I'm in bed, I'm out for the count. I have a problem motivating myself to get into bed to go to sleep.

There have been days where I can bearly keep my eyes open and I just want to sleep, but STILL, even if there isn't much to do, I still potter around on here or watch tv etc. etc. and I just don't know WHY I do this. I tell myself "right, early to bed tonight" and it just never happens. Why can't I just go to bed early like any normal person? *sigh* :frown:.

Example of this is tonight. It is 1.05 am. No one on msn. No one on here really. Surely I should think 'bed time' as I've had a little over 16 hours sleep since Friday... so I'm knackered. But no, still I sit here, typing away! hmmm!

Sometimes i will do what you do and sometimes i will stay up at the night do everything i need to do and more. My excuse is that everything is peaceful while everyone is asleep so i can concentrate better and relax more.

I dont know about you maybe it is just the student lifestyle but other than that seems there is generally a pattern of reasons in doing so.
You think that you missing on something while you are asleep although whatever from the world you miss you will catch up in the morning.
Some people subconsciously afraid of sleep associating this with the unknown usually something stressful. The dreams they make, what will happen to them while sleeping are a few things i can thing of at the moment. I believe Freud said somewhere in his theory that some people associate sleep with death.
Worrying too much or dont want to face the day and the things they have to do tomorrow which will come after you wake up can be a reason to not want to go sleep.
Think that sleep is a waste of time or feeling lonely.
ect. When we realize that whatever reason we stay awake is wrong and the benefit of going early in bed is greater we manage to have a good night routine which is important.

One tip for going to bed early is to try to make bed time more tempting. Create a relaxing atmosphere and set you mind in going to bed in a certain time. Play you favorite music light up a candle, an essence stick 2 hours before you go (so it doesnt smell to strong when you go to bed) and very important is to sleep in clean sheets and a clean tidy room. Also pick the clothes to wear, whatever you take at work/uni and set the day plan for tomorrow. All these i believe help to prepare for a good night sleep and on time.

Even if im not tired I got to bed stick on a cd rather than watch tv as it helps me dose off.

Good idea, Carl (or is it Karl?), you'll be leading a much healthier life and find you have more energy, but something tells me you're a night bird... What time of day were you born? Could be something to do with your internal biological clock. I was born in about 1 or 2 o'clock at night and that's when I like to be awake. But I still get tired from a normal day's work, of course. Must admit, though, that when Marshlander is here, having someone to go to bed with makes bed much more appetising. But I've heard of couples separating because they didn't live in the same time bracket... Hmmmm?,?,?Rolleyes
Another thought is that you are a Cancer and Cancers are supposed to be led by the Moon, which only comes out at night... That could also be a (remote?) reason.

Oooh very logical concepts there!
Well I was born at 4.30pm so kind of afternoon. Yes, I do like to be awake in the evening. I always sleep through til afternoon, even if I've had an early night unless someone wakes me up - I'm the type not usually stirred by anything. So I am definitely not an early bird!

The cancer and moon idea is a concept I never thought of... could be! Confusedmile: I've always been like it though, it started off as I'd go to bed after midnight. And it's just gotten later and later and later. It's like I always find some excuse not to go to sleep really early.

Maybe you should live in the United States, Canada or some American country, then you'd be in synch...???? Just maybe???

Oh, sleeping troubles, I know all about that, lol.
Your problem seems to be the opposite from what I experienced, I could get to sleep (usually), but I would wake up after only a couple of hours and not be able to go back to sleep. For me it was stress and a bunch of little things keeping my mind from shutting down.
Now that I have a very physically demanding job and little stress, I fall to sleep easily and stay asleep from 8-10 hours a night.

My advice is try to tire yourself out and perhaps just find a time where you turn off the computer and tell yourself to get to bed. I have to do that or else I would spend my time on the internet and playing video games into the early morning hours. Plus, I love to sleep... I love to dream my crazy, non-sensical dreams...

Those dreams give your brain time to wind down and get rid of living angst...
