trialbyerror Wrote:South, here I have to take issue.
Why is it that when referring to a black person as "black" this is racist.
But when referring to a white person as caucaisian "this is not interperated as racist.
If you are black, be proud to be called black. It is who you are.
Making public comment (verbal or written) that black people are lesser because they are black, that is racist, not simply because you are black white coloured or of any other racial group.
I am white and jolly proud to be white. That does not make me racist.
I am also gay and jolly proud of that to. That does not make me sexist.
What would make me sexist would be to think that other sexual groups are inferior
I am no better because I am white, I am better than other's because of the choices I made throughtout my life.
Unfortunately, you've touched a raw nerve, as I have to put up with racialism every godamn single day. SA is still deeply racially divided, and there is a huge undercurrent of hatred in many diffrent directions.
Zulu's / Xosa's / Pedie's / Tswana's (and many more) all believe they are racially superior and barely tolerate each other.
Throw white Africkaans and English who are also deeply divided into that pot, and it's a stew of hatered just waiting to boil over.
That's where the plot got lost. We understand seperatism, welive every day with the hatred.
Americans and most of the rest of the world does not understand this. They think they do, but they don't.
That is why, pre 1994, our government was dealing with it by establishing seperate homelands.
Things where not right, but they where a hell of a lot better for every body than they are now.
This country is fast becomming a 4th world dictatorship, like Zimbabwe.
This regime uses many devious methods to remain in power.
They even spread stories amongst the rural population that people have to vote for them or the "ancestors" will be very angry.
Laugh, but believe me, the rural population is largly illeterate and deeply steeped in their traditions, and they vote accordingly.
Thank you, to all those do goodie countries who brought this about and stuffed it up for everybody.
And now that it is stuffed up, not one thing is done to try to fix it, no let's move on somewhere else where we think we can stuff it up
Grrrrrrrrrrr
You get, into the vending machine, a stuffed up South Africa
(Rant over sorry all)
My dear duckie, get your gear down, and read correctly please, I said that the word "black" is not an official term to refer to African or African-American racial groups. I never even discussed whether the term was racist or not..
the word Zambo/Sambo which WAS being discussed is indeed a term for a mixed racial group, but over there in the north it has racist connotations, over here it doesn't.
Proud to be "white" and gay? Congrats, duckie, owning to who you are is always good..
"white", however, is not an official term for Caucasian racial groups either, again, I'm still not discussing whether the term is racist or not..
I myself I'm a genetic cauldron starting with some Spaniard raping a local Amerindian girl some 500 years ago and going through heavy European inmmigration in Central Chile in the late XIX early XX century...in that regard one of my greatgrandfathers was German, one was Irish, one was Spanish (directly from Spain) and the other one was a local..my greatgrandmothers were mostly locals except for an Italian one..
I simply call myself Chilean, as does veryone else in this country regardless of racial background...
If I stirred up in your head some of the old and obvious problems with racial groups that South Africa has had over the years, I'm sorry..in my country, given the relative homogeneity, no such problems exist or at least not at the level of South Africa or the US southern states..so I tend to speak lightly about these matters..
.......aaaaaaaanyway...
Bowyn...are you trying to kill me?
you get a cured rib in no time..
duckie, you get a friendly visitor...who will do "friendly" hot things with you
I insert all 27°C that are currently making my afternoon unpleasant
