Wade Wrote:That's a very interesting fear, very existential. I imagine the fear of forgetting things is basically the fear of the loss of your identity. Who are we if we don't have our stories? You could always tattoo the important things on your body like Guy Pearce in Momento. Potentially I suppose, but it's more a feeling of not being able to know things at all times, so I suppose Identity could fit snugly into that equation, but for me, I've always been able to just know things from my memory, similar to how I'm able to just feel things from my environment, so not being able to scares me. I actually want to get evaluated by a certified psychiatrist or whomever to see where my level of Eidetic Memory truely stands, because it's a big contributing factor, as with normal memory, it fades, but having a significant recall of memories and information long gone is an odd thing and would understandably make someone with it afraid to lose it, because they've never lost it before, like they would have with normal memory. However, Eidetic Memory can fade if you take little interest in the subject and isn't always accurate if you remember the wrong thing or something changes(like a road or land mark) - a lesson seen commonly in Elephants who rely on Eidetic Memory to find water and the graves of kin.

pho·bi·a
/ˈfōbēə/ Noun An extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something: "he had a phobia about being under water"; "a phobia of germs". My understanding of 'phobia' is an overwhelming fear - for instance my phobia of planes crashing is a phobia as in I cease to be able to function within nominal parameters when confronted with a flight. To the point where the only way I ride on a plane is to be heavily sedated. I do have a healthy "respect" for gravity, thus am leery of the edge of the roof, or take caution when going up a tall ladder. It is not an overwhelming fear (as with planes), it is healthy caution and respect for gravity.

Luposlipaphobia, is my biggest one, but I'm getting a handle on it.

I can't claim any as my own -- having tested all the popular ones: heights, enclosed spaces, flying, public speaking, snakes, spiders, etc.
Here are a few that I find entertaining, at least:

There are all sorts of phobias.....
Fear of lying. Fear of cheating. Fear of being afraid. Fear of failing. Fear of not being loved. Fear of feeling bad. Fear of eating. Fear of drinking. Fear of breaking laws. Fear of hurting peoples feelings. Fear of sleeping. Fear of people thinking bad of you (Ive worked with a few of these types). Phobias range from mental to physical to extreme psychological.

I say I don't have a phobia because to me phobias are irrational and paralyzing. For example, a pyrophobe would find himself freaking out over a campfire or trembling at a fire in a fireplace, and maybe even having sweaty palpitations over a lit match (maybe even a match that could be lit). I don't have any fears like that.
However, I've always held a mild fear of fire, though not in any way that's debilitating, only that I spend more time than usual in guarding against it, get angrier over people careless with fire (such as throwing a lit cigarette out a window) than I normally do, and have nightmares of fires chasing me (though oddly enough I also have dreams where I'm pyrokinetic and use that power on zombies). |
