So I've lost 30-40lbs and have hit a plateau because of surgery and school. However, I really want to be between 180-200lbs when I graduate college. Do you think that i possible?----this would require losing 70-90lbs by mid May.

I'm not sure losing that much weight so rapidly would be good for your health. Have you spoken to a doctor about guiding your weight loss efforts? Although, congratulations on your successes so far.

I have to agree with OrphanPip, to try to lose that much weight in such a short a space of time could be even dangerous. Congratulations on losing the weight you have so far but you don't say how you managed it. Was it a combination of diet and exercise? I suggest as OrphanPip does, that you consult your doctor or at least a nutritionist and/or your exercise Monitor if you are in fact doing exercise.

That's too much weight to loose....actually recommended weight loss in the MILITARY is 3-8 pounds a month....

Mid may is AGES away. I think it could be doable. But be healthy about it. (ALSO I only know what a kg is not an lb. What are these lb things!) Eat right and exercise right. If you are doing lots of exercise then eat lots of carbs. And enough fats. TAKING FAT OUT OF A DIET IS BAD. Eat nuts, nuts have lots of good fats.

depends on your height and build, some people can't loose that amount of weight, and depending on your body type you may never get to that weight.

My advise - watch what you eat, excercise and weigh yourself regularly.

I use an app on my phone to daily record my weight, it was good motivation to watch the graph come down.
I lost almost 20 kilos in just under a year then I stopped loosing weight (but that's because i'm now gaining muscle) I know I did it a healthy way because the weight graph is a nice healthy curve and doesn't jump up and down

if you hit a plateau try going to the gym, run, bike and look for an additional 600 calories off your diet.

a free iPhone app is MyFitnessPal; it is somewhat difficult to use because it has a clunky GUI that you have to contend with. the good is it evaluates your vitamin intake and exercise as well.

If you want to maximize your weight loss it is critical you eat the right foods, take supplements and be super aware of your health. Good for you loosing weight but your expectations of 70-90lbs by mid May NOT possible.

-a nice supplement product is from Fitness Labs
-casein type protein powder is more available to the body than standard whey protein
-you can crash out and all your efforts will be wasted so be some what careful what you are doing.

Actually if you plateaued, you may want to consider adding MORE food to your diet. If your activity level has increased and you are eating the same amount as before, then you need to make sure that you are getting enough for your body to still let go of the fat. Eating too little or the wrong combination of foods can cause progress to stop. Changing things up does help to shock your metabolism and get progress moving again.

What's your diet , exercise routine, and water intake look like? I'm a big advocate of macronutrient partitioning when dieting, but it depends on how your exercise program is setup.

On a different note, 70lbs in 11 months is doable and isn't excessive at all, especially at your age.

70-90 pounds of weight loss... Hmm.

Using Arnold Schwarzenegger as an Example. During his prime he weighed around 260 pounds off season, at 6'2" his BMI had him as obese nearly morbidly obese. Yet no one would have called him fat because a decent chunk of that weight was lean muscle.

The scales are liars, and so is the BMI chart - Both make assumptions about over all body fitness and the amount of muscle mass one has. The accurate measurement would be a body fat percentage one, the best method for that is the displacement method were you are weighed on dry land, then weighed in a tank of water. Fat floats, muscle and bone sinks, thus the difference between your weight on dry land and your weight in water will give how much fat you actually have.

11 months to lose that much weight is not an ideal. IF you starve yourself that much then you will lose muscle mass and your body will start eating some of its organs to get its nutrients, Unless you can live without lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys....

I have no idea what your diet is like, nor do I know what your exercise program and goals are. If you are bulking up muscle mass (weight lifting) then chances are that you have reached a point where you are building lean muscle mass as fast as you are losing fat mass.

If you are using one of those fad diets, chances are you are killing yourself slowly, and setting yourself up for 'rebound'. The human body is designed to survive starvation, it will start holding on to ever calorie it can in order to prolong life. Later stages it will eat its skin, muscles, organs and save the fat in order to feed the heart and brain which are the only two organs the body cares about...

I would strongly suggest you visit with your doctor and get him/her to send you to a nutritionist. IF at all possible get the weight displacement measurement to get an idea of your body fat percentage.

Set a more realistic goal of 3 pounds per month on average of fat loss. Yes its slow, yes its going to take a longer time for you to lose 90 pounds (30 months or 2.5 years), however it will lead to your shedding fat, gaining muscle and in the longer run you will have a much better chance of keeping the fat off.

As for diet, if you are feeling hungry at all, you are not eating enough. I suggest aiming for 6 servings of fresh fruit and veg per day. Yes that means your supper plate will have at least half of the plate covered in vegetable matter (not grains and potatoes) - however all of that veg is to keep your stomach full.

If you are working out to gain muscle, then you will need to address proteins. Muscle require massive amounts of proteins, thus Bodybuilders eat a lot of egg whites, a lot of lean skinless chicken breast and lots and lots of protein shakes.

If you are on the carbless diet - stop that. Carbs are essential, they are converted into sugars which are released into the blood stream slowly. Sugar is the bodies main source of energy. BB's will eat a carb 15-25 minutes before a workout, which gives them more energy and increases their ability to push out one more rep.

70 lbs in 11 months is pushing it, but doable and healthy if the diet and workout regimen is setup properly.

Most folks eat something as simple as an apple pre workout. The purpose of this is not necessarily for the added energy since most standard solid carbs take the body a few hours to be utilized. Fruits, likes apples, contain fructose which don't necessarily spike insulin levels, but do help to replenish liver glycogen which is tied directly to anabolism.
