Is being gay "normal"? What defines "normal"?

normal has alot of particular meanings, people like being normal so calling a group of people not normal is always going to come across badly.

Not meaning to be picky, but 'normal' is a perfect word to use by it's very definition.

Not using a word because you are worried about how someone else might take it, because there are always people looking to find something, anything to be offended by.

If it comes across badly it only reflects badly on the way it is interpreted and the interpreted.

I was on another forum the other day, and the topic of being gay came up. We were talking about something that happened in an 80/90s TV show... and it eventually lead to me saying something about how being gay is not "the normi". That didn't sit well with readers, so I explained that I was gay and that I simply meant that it isn't "normal" in terms of what society expects. Then came a hurl of insults until it finally ended with me being called a self-loathing gay who needs to off himself (lol).

Anyway, I was thinking about the whole discussion afterwards, and now I'm wondering if my choice of word was inappropriate? I personally have always defined "normal" as being something that was determined by society -- something that was generally expected and accepted by the majority. For instance, I have purple hair.. I don't really think that's normal. In the same sense, I think that being straight is "normal".. but I guess even as I type that it doesn't sound right. Maybe the word is average? Maybe being gay is simply "different"? Or maybe it's all a bunch of PC garbage, which I recently bitched about in another thread on the same topic? I'm not sure..

Either way it got me thinking, and I by no means mean to offend.

So.. how do you define normal? What is normal? Is being gay "normal? Was I in the wrong? Am I thinking too much?

Tyron, you have my sympathies mate, Honestly, I believe that to persue an intelligent discussion with cruds who can't assimulate your point in the first place just 'aint worth the use of oxygen

If however you if you feel strongly about it, drop the gloves and take them out directly, something like "another one who don't understand plain English and missed the point".

Otherwise just get offensive..... Done that live on telly once, years ago regarding gay parenting when I fostered my son... Ask an I'll tell the tale...

Exactly, normal is the perfect word... it's just more PC garbage. If I would have replaced the word with "not average" everyone would have been happy. Why? I'm not quite sure. Normal is boring.. fuck normal... as Kiid basically put it :p

It is normal.
It's a behaviour a significant number of humans are naturally predisposed to, without intrinsic harm involved.
It's not normative though, AKA the norm, the majority disposition ETC.

That's how I see things anyway.
I would take offence to being told I'm not normal personally.
