pictures (in your home)
#11
Here's a list of all the pictures:

an unframed abstract painting I did in year 8, which has a badly drawn playground slide on it.

A pokemon jigsaw puzzle that I didn't do and I don't know where it came from but it's been here for at least ten years.

various photos.

a painting by mum's korean friend's artist daughter but it's an early one so it's not very good.

A chigirie piece by the same person of a seascape. This one you can see how she's the queen of colours. It's quite amazing how good she is with colours, that's what she studied through school.

If I had my own house, It's be full of paintings on the walls, but photographs on tables and stuff.

Hey pix, that sounds really nice, and when it comes to paintings ive said here on gs before sea paintings are my favourite, ever since i saw a huge painting (and many others) at chatham docks museum, i could hardly walk away, they had just sea scapes and model boats.

Pix i liked your poem :) and you posted it on my birthday oct 12th

Pix Wrote:I always have a room that is mine. That room typically strikes others as surreal. In addition to blacklight posters (mostly fairies and Alice in Wonderland theme), I have a hippie and yin-yang throw blanket pinned up (the yin yang one is actually on the inside of my closet door so I only see it when the door is open, which it's currently not).

I used to have a poster board I made with several bumper stickers on it in support of various liberties with a slant toward the humorous and snarky surrounding the pic (color copy from a game rule book) of a ghaele eladrin (a fictional celestial/angelic race in D&D 2.0 Planescape that fought tyranny and social repression wherever it was found in championing the values of Chaotic Good) which was sort of my icon to help me feel sanctuary against society. Since I got older I started cringing a bit at it and got rid of it, but I saved the eladrin part and she still hangs on my wall, and now I also have a sticker of Kim Possible as well (which has a symbolic meaning for me, but I don't feel like explaining it), and a pumpkin sticker (as October is so important to me as described in my poem here).

I have many other eye catching pieces in my room, like my lava lamp and lamp that doubles as a sculpture of many mushrooms (and I have a black light of course), and what gets the most comment (or question for those not familiar with the works of Lovecraft) is my futon with Strawberry Shortcake blanket with Cthulhu plush toy (and also slippers) on it.

But I prefer to keep things tasteful and minimalist to the rest of my home, though I have a preference for paintings of beaches and oceans, not sure why, including stormy ones, and I'm also a sucker for flower motifs (wallpaper, dishtowels, carpet rugs, etc), though not in my room itself (and I'm not even sure why). Though if I ever became wealthy I'd like get many paintings of Tanning.

OMG!!!!

That SO sounds like a classroom I had in 5th grade!!!!
I dont remember if she was an English teacher or homeroom, but she was a REAL hippie, and the classroom walls were covered in felt and black light posters of "peace", "love", and "happiness" themes. There were beads hanging from the ceiling, and we didnt have chairs and desks, we had beanbags!!!!! She also had hippie throw pillows and afghans if you wanted to have one over you in class. SHE WAS A HOOT!!!! She always wore tyedye moomoo's and hippie beads. I dont remember her name, but EVERYBODY wanted to be in her class!!

Up until about three weeks ago I had several John Lennon posters around my apartment, guitar posters, posters from plays I was in or directed (signed by the casts), artwork that an old friend had made and gave me, and various photos of friends and plays. Yup... three weeks ago.

Then, in a brilliant moment of existential panic, I tore all of it up and threw it in the trash. My thought at the time was that I felt my surroundings were confining my identity. "I am not a fixed person. I am always changing! I don't need to held to my past! BWhahhahahhahaa!"

At the time it felt great. Now I ...... regret it. My walls are bare, and on one level I kind of like it. I'm very minimalist, kind of the opposite of a hoarder. On the other hand, it probably would've been smart to put those things in a box. I still have photos stowed away, but none on my walls now.

Family/loved ones portraits, incoherent ramblings scribbled in your own... no forget that, what covers your walls ???

Thats all. Smile

Do you like to have pictures on your walls at home? Yes, but, on the rarest of occasion - No - the design/space/house will dictate.

if so what do you like? What belongs on the wall of the house, I'm occupying, will come clear, after a time of living in it, for more than a few weeks - design/space/house dictate. OK sometimes it's your mood, but you usually lose out if you stay there for 3 months or more, as moods change......

would you say its modern style or more of a certain period? See answer 2.

Do you like frames? IMO object/art dictate its needs: "frame or no frame?' Generally, I love frames in all their incarnations. Not just ones for pictures

Or film/music posters? I've worked with them in the past, and they will probably crop up again, they can present serious "issues" but when their good, -they're very, very good.

Family/loved ones portraits, incoherent ramblings scribbled in your own... no forget that, what covers your walls ??? I keep most family, in their rightful place; a frame or two of kind remembrances is lovely, for some of them. More, in my case - is just more ---------if there is no kind remembrance.

Pleasing surrounding, even on a very modest income, are necessary, IMO.......
