Please watch this video. I think you'll be surprised how true it all sounds.

A bit more about vulnerability and shame:

I love how she's able to summarise concepts like shame so simply.

"the less you talk about it, the more you have,
the more you talk about it, the less you have"

Not exactly a direct quote cause I'm writing this after having watched, but I must say that's probably the part that'll stay with me the most. It's such a basic statement, but it makes so much sense to me.

I agree that vulnerability is pretty much a necessity, I think if we never put ourselves into situations where we felt it, we'd never have a chance to grow as people - if we only ever put ourselves into situations where we were completely comfortable, we'd never be challenging ourselves.

Or at least, that's how I see it.

Either way, glad you put this up - 'twas very informative :3

Thanks, KidChameleon... You owe all this to the Beeb. I was listening to Woman's Hour this morning, as is my wont, and I heard her speak on the programme and it suddenly dawned upon me that this was the kind of pep talk we probably all need, at some time. The things is, how to break the cycle? First is to untangle where it stems from. She's put this brilliantly into words.
