I was wondering who out there keeps fish or any kind, and where you get them, and whay you would like to see in your local fish shop?

I own/run a fish shop with my partner, we kinda specialise in Marine, but sell tropical and cold water to, and I'm looking for inspiration to change things around a little.

Marine are my favourite, however I have a Black Rhom in the shop, hes 17inches, anda darling!

I keep fish & have for years. Have had saltwater in the past, but just fresh at this time

There was a thread where a member named Marc talked about his aquarium and fishes. Sadly, he left some time ago. He specifically mentioned having a Black Rhom himself actually

Interesting coincidence Miles.
Although they are much to common a fish for my liking, every shop and zoo seem's to have these beauties in that have been abandoned.
A sign of the times, who knows?

I cant afford to have fishes. Upkeep and all that....plus I dont have room and the landlord doesnt allow pets.

But I like Starfish, Sand Dollars, Urchins, Clown Fish, Sea Horses, Anemones, Angel Fish, Parrot Fish, Lion Fish, Moorish Idol, Mandarin Fish, and Glass Fish are pretty neat.

I currently have 4 koi pond.

Koi are a type of carp and breed worse than rabbits. Unfortunately a large chunk of the offspring end up being black and silver and not brightly colored.


Through the years I have separated the colorful from the black/silver ones to try to breed more colorful fish. Its not a real breeding program.

I have considered starting a pond of fresh water fish to supplement my diet with fish protein.... However the cost and the requirements for feed offset any food gains I might get.

An old boy who is a customer of mine has a lovely koi pond, and he has 2 whites, they must be 20 years old I guess?
They are the largest koi I have seen, coming in at around 2 foot. The second you walk towards the pond, they have their heads out the water, their mouths going for food, amazing fish.

It came in batter and was surrounded by chips (Fries) and mushy peas!!!

I keep a Reef tank that is not quiet 12 months old yet and hasn't completely cycled, at least I am not confident it has matured as I was dealing with a money hungry Aquarist and I was Naive about aquarium keeping, so as a result My reef tank was 'built' too fast and it crashed and as a result I lost half my fish and almost $1000 because of that.

This is the problem.
There is a shop a few miles from me, and they tend to sell sell sell.
I am forever getting customers from there saying 'I had my tank for a week, and all my fish died, I think he sold me rubbish can you sell me some more'

So I say 'Nope'.

It's the basic rule of business, look after the customer, and the customer looks after you.
Yes, making a grand over a few months from a customer is nice, but making several thousand from the customer other years, is much better for me, and for the fish.
