Highway or backroads
#11
When I'm on road trips, I never enjoy the destination as much as the journey.

Backroads if Im not in a hurry, highways if Im in a hurry.

Love the backroads route, as you find great pubs and places to eat in the English countryside.

Found a fantastic pub yesterday on a back road that Ive never been on before that has just the most amazing roast leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic. The George and Dragon. Fantastic place, all thatched roof and brimful gardens. And at an absolute bargain price.

We will be going back Smile

Of course if you got to ride on the 99 around here you would decide that off road driving would be easier on your spin - the damn freeway through here is in bad need of repair. California has terrible, terrible road beds - for some odd reason they decided to all but ban mass transportation and make everyone dependent on the freeway system, then just up and gave up on maintaining the freeways.

If I lived in say Oregon, where they do constant road work and keep the freeway smooth - I may actually drive more on the freeway.

When I was stuck in Northern CA, there are NO backroads. If you leave your town/city, you HAVE to get on a highway if you want to get anywhere. Sad really. I think thats one of the reasons why the driving population is SO EXTREMELY VIOLENT in California.....no options from getting from point A to point B.

I have to drive an hour and a half to 2 hours before I even see a road with more then one lane in each direction. I like it that way. I'm in no hurry.

Depends on where you live. On my island even the high way isn't bad looking. But the back roads are amazing!
